With the wrestling team getting off to a strong team this season, Cameron Crisp is helping lead the way, including five victories this Saturday at the Tom Cameron Invitational.
Last year’s state qualifier is working to have his best season yet with intense preparations.
“Just constant practicing, and I’m always studying what I’m doing, going through positions with my teammates and just making sure that everything is at its best,” he said of his regime. “Just constantly perfecting everything I can do, and chasing greatness all the time.”
Going 31-6 last season, and being one of the two returning state qualifying wrestlers, Crisp has new goals and higher expectations than ever, and put in the work in the offseason to help towards this goal.
“I’ve been lifting a lot more,” he said. “I found a weak point of mine was I couldn’t compete with a lot of guy’s strength, so the whole summer I worked on getting my strength up. I also worked on my mobility. I was being a little stiff in positions, so I worked on my flexibility and being able to move better and get a better range of motion in general.”
Wrestling is exhausting on every part of the body and taxing mentally. Having wrestled over 10 years, Crisp has ways to push through these difficult moments.
“Everytime I just think about the times I’ve lost, thinking that there’s people out there better than me,” he said. “It just drives me to keep working cause in the end I want to be the best at anything. I don’t want anybody to have an edge over me or to think they’re better than me.”
Crisp looks forward to showing people he’s one of the best wrestlers in the state.
“I feel like that’s something that I’ve earned, that’s something that I know I am,” he said. “So now it’s time to just show everybody that I am.”
