Deadpool & Wolverine is the movie that a lot of comic book fans and Marvel fans alike have been waiting on for years, but does it live up to the hype? This two-hour-long movie of comical, action-packed and even heart-warming scenes follows Deadpool going through the Marvel multiverse trying to find a version of Wolverine to help to save his own timeline.
The movie starts with, Deadpool, the merc with the mouth, going through a grave of the deceased Wolverines, trying to see he’s still alive. After finding out that he wasn’t, the Time Variance Authority, or TVA for short, shows up to capture him. The movie then goes to a flashback of Deadpool going through the timeline trying to find a good job, like applying to be an Avengers. He doesn’t get the job, so he goes to a different timeline from his original that he eventually made his home.
As the film progresses, the TVA shows up to capture Deadpool, and they end up taking and telling him that he’s there for a greater purpose; To help the TVA. In the process of telling him this, the TVA brings up how the timeline he’s in right now will die, because their Wolverine is dead. Not being able to live with this fact, Deadpool steals a device and travels though the timelines trying to find a replacement for his Wolverine.
There’s a lot of hype behind this movie. One of the reasons why is because the then retired Hugh Jackman came back to play his old character, Wolverine. This fact alone brought more excitement to many fans.
The movie does a great job at keeping the viewer engaged, as it adds characters that some were expecting, and characters that people didn’t see coming at all.
There are cameos that old viewers – and even newer ones – would love to see, such as Chris Evans, but not as Captain America, but rather playing the Human Torch. Other fan favorite also return. The movie also brought back plot points from the Marvel show, Loki, but expands on it more, like how he can travel through the various timelines.
Even with the news that the character, Deadpool, is now a part of Disney, it didn’t stop the character from being Deadpool, a very violent and gory character, with many inappropriate jokes and one-liners. The movie felt like a great Marvel movie instead of the weaker ones that have came out in recent years, evident by the fact that the movie made a lot more money at the box office compared to the last Deadpool films.
One thing this movie does wrong is the main villain. They are supposed to be an important part of the movie, especially towards the end, but they didn’t feel important, almost as if their role were like one of the side characters in the movie.
In the end, Deadpool & Wolverine is a movie deserving of its hype, and a hit that fans and non fans alike should go watch and experience for themselves.
