Uglies is a hit movie on Netflix. The movie surprised me since it wasn’t what I was expecting based on just reading the title.
In the movie, it is tradition for people to get surgery to become “pretty” at the age of 16. Until the surgery is done, they are deemed ugly by society. The movie is based on a popular young adult novel, which focuses on a group of 15-year-olds, waiting to get the surgery.
There are three towns they live in depending on where they stand in society. There’s the town where they already have had the surgery, the town where they are waiting to get the surgery, and another that is neither, they don’t get the surgery because they are against it.
The girl Tally, who is played by Joey King, begins to retaliate against it and wants to try to avoid getting the surgery done after she finds out what really happens when they get the surgery.
Shay, who is played by Brianne Tju, didn’t want to get the surgery to begin with because she had been in contact with people from the town who were against it.
I liked the fact that the movie took place in the future. My favorite part of the movie was when she traveled to the other city where they were against getting the surgery. It isn’t just a normal drive to get there, it is like a short magical adventure.
