Coming off of a big game against Valpo and a nine-game winning streak, Merrillville prepares for Warsaw, as they approach their Semi-State game Friday. Seniors John Peters and Adam Camphor go in-depth on their thoughts about their upcoming games and their previous win.
Senior John Peters, co-captain, shares some of the keys that helped them beat Valpo.
“Knowing our assignments, getting in the right mindset, and not doubting ourselves.”
Senior Adam Camphor, co-captain, adds to those key factors.
“Being physical on the line of scrimmage, stopping the runs, and not letting any explosive plays happen.”
Peters gives some important elements to coming on top against Warsaw.
“Making sure we play low, be consistent with tackling, know our own personal keys, who we have every play, and watching films.“
Camphor builds on those elements.
“Everyone playing the gaps, and following their own rules of their position.”
Camphor tells how he is mentally preparing for the game against Warsaw.
“Studying and knowing our opponent and their tendencies, and having the attitude that we are going to win.“
Peters shares what going to state means for not only him, but our school as a whole.
“We haven’t been to state since 1976, and that’s been our teams’ goal since June.”
