Last Saturday, history was written as Senior wrestler Adrian Pellot completed his undefeated season with a state championship. He remained No.1 ranked at 165 lbs. throughout his season marking his dominant performance.
“I feel really good and super grateful that I got a state title. It’s also pretty cool being undefeated and representing my coaches and team,” Pellot said.
Pellot will continue wrestling next year at Purdue. He believes it will be a big transition going from high school to college.
“I think I’m going to just keep training how I am and working hard but put more focus onto my hand fighting and really working on my position and strength leading into college but this is a big step for me,” Pellot said
Marlone Kirksy finished 6th in his 150 lb. weight class, marking his senior year on the podium. Other state qualifiers being Matthew Maldonado, Warren Brown, and Anthony Bustamante.
“I believe I preformed well at state, I wasn’t able to accomplish my ultimate goal of winning a state title but I was able to do what I couldn’t do last year and place,” Kirksy said.
Pellot hopes his accomplishments can help younger wrestlers grow.
“I hope my dominant season will just pave a path for all the young guys coming up and so they can closely connect with someone who accomplished a goal they hope to accomplish and know it’s not impossible,” he said.
