With approximately 20 days left of school until graduation, the class of 2025 is undergoing a serious case of senioritis. Procrastination, motivation on the decline, and a dwindling attendance—all of the symptoms are there.
Senior Kailey Wise’s senioritis is greatly affecting her mentally.
“It’s tiring to be at school now because I feel like I don’t have to be here actually. I’m just here for no reason. So it’s definitely a mental battle to get up and come to school everyday and actually do work and turn stuff in on time. It’s just getting harder and harder,” Wise said.
Senioritis is partially caused by the fascinating things that seniors have planned for after they graduate high school. A lot of seniors are going away to college, where they will tread new waters by meeting new people and learning about new things.
“I already have my roommate, and all of my stuff is set up. In my head, I’m already at college. I’m not in highschool anymore; I’m in college already, so being here every day makes me feel like ‘What’s the point?’ I’m already in college. College is here. I’m there. We’re done,” Wise said.
Senior Roderick Frye’s attendance is being affected by his senioritis.
“I had a teacher email Mr. Schoon and my counselor, and that kind of checked me. It kept me back on track, but my attendance is kind of bad,” Frye said.
As the year slowly comes to a close, Frye finds motivation to fight his senioritis.
“I think about it like this: we have nine more Mondays left of school. And volleyball, if my coach finds out my attendance is really bad, I don’t play, and she’s a scary, scary person sometimes,” Frye said.
In order to make it to the end of the year, Wise uses self-motivation.
“I feel like I just start thinking more about my end goal, and I just tell myself, ‘I just have to get through these next two months, and then once I’m done with the next two months, I’m good,’ so I just have to keep pushing just a little bit longer.” I just keep telling myself ‘a little bit more,’” Wise said.
Unfortunately, the only cure to senioritis is graduation, which will not be until May 30. Hopefully, our seniors will keep holding on until then!
