As Rihanna walked out on the red carpet, fans weren’t just shocked at her amazing outfit, but they were shocked to see baby #2!
The Met Gala is an event hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit where celebrities dress by a theme to raise money for the museum. It’s also the opening celebration for the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition. This year’s theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” it represents the celebration of black dandyism and the importance of style in shaping black identities. This style mixes vibrant colors with refined tailoring, cultural significance, and bold patterns.
A lot of celebrities matched this year’s theme to a tea. Some of my favorites looks:
- Cardi B – She wore a long green coat with a pretty pattern. I loved this outfit and her hair topped it off.
- Rihanna – She wore a long black skirt with a matching cropped blazer and a cute grey belly bump cover. She looked so pretty, no complaints.
- Teyanna Taylor – She wore a baggy grey suit with giant red shoulder pads on top. She was my favorite look, no complaints.
- Savannah James – She wore a large burgundy suit/gown that flowed as a mermaid skirt. I didn’t like the middle of her dress and she could’ve had a different hairstyle.
- Lupita Nyong’o – She wore a baby blue suit with a matching top hat. Though her look may have seemed basic, it wasn’t. The blue really brings out her skin tone.
- Jenna Ortega – She wore a long sculpted dress made from measuring tape. I think this dress went perfectly with the theme despite it looking a little plain.
- HM: Joey King – She wore a green suit with crystals all over. She looked amazing in this suit, I have no complaints.
On the other hand, these celebrities didn’t slay the runway:
- Amelia Gray – She wore a red lace bodysuit with red laced stockings and a cropped mini red tux and what looks like a red laced durag. Honestly, this outfit was just hideous and did not match the theme whatsoever.
- Pharell Williams – He wore a white blazer with black flared dress pants. His outfit was just too basic.
- Zendaya – She wore an all cream/white suit with a matching top hat. It was too basic for my liking, she could’ve done way better.
- Anne Hathaway – She wore a long black and silver, shimmery, striped skirt with a simple white button up. She didn’t match the theme at all.
- Anna Wintour – She wore a long silky white/gray dress with a long light blue tux jacket on top. I honestly feel like she tried to match the theme with the tux jacket, but it wasn’t working at all.
Overall, I loved this theme and most of the looks. I feel like a lot of people could’ve definitely stepped their game up. Others didn’t come to play and I love that, this year’s gala definitely set the tone for next year. My prediction for next year is that we’ll have a theme related to the movie Alice in Wonderland. Hopefully, everyone will put a lot of thought and effort into their outfit.
