Sinners has been a surprising success at the box office, but that’s not surprising because Director Ryan Coogler has never failed to release a good movie.
Every movie Coogler has created has been a huge success with critics and at the box office. He has released Creed, Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, Fruitvale Station. Fruitvale Station was his first movie he ever made and it starred Michael B. Jordan, which created an ever-lasting actor and producer duo.
Sinners is set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta, Michael B. Jordan plays twins, Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown to start a nightclub with their little cousin Sammie (Miles Caton). They are faced with a supernatural evil once they return home. Jordan does a great job making the twins seem like two different people. Hailee Steinfeld also appears as Stack’s girlfriend Mary.
Sinners, which surpassed the $200 million mark during its first week in the box office, is stirring entertainment, gory and thrilling. It may take some time to get to the main story, but when it does, it’s the perfect mix of horror and storytelling.
The film is a great blend of themes and it also keeps the audience thinking throughout the whole movie. It explores themes of community, racism and the power of music on others. Remmick (Jack O’Connell) is a great antagonist. O’Connell portrays the role of a vampire in the 1930s perfectly. He first infects members of the KKK who then tried to help him invade the nightclub because they couldn’t get into the nightclub without an invite.
Sinners leaves fans’ heads on a swivel throughout the entire movie with different twists and turns in every new scene. Be sure to watch to the end of the credits.
I believe the power of music is real and it can be spiritual depending on what you’re listening to. When you go see Sinners remember to have an open-mind and that you may not understand everything on the first go.
Sinners is the movie of the year not just because of O’Connell and Jordan but because of Ryan Coogler. His creativity and his way of putting what he writes into a movie is crazy. This movie deserves Oscars and every award it could get. It’s truly the movie of the year.
