The S.A.V.E Club (which stands for Students Against Violence Everywhere) is a student-led club sponsored by Family & Community Engagement Specialist Ms. Collins. They promise to help create a safer and more positive community through education and life saving techniques.
“I wanted to sponsor this club because I have been personally impacted by violence,” Ms. Collins said. “My father was a homicide victim during my 1st year of college when I was 19 years of age. Prior to my dad, my cousin ,who was 19-years-old, was killed at a party when I was 17-years-old and a junior in high school. Both were shot.”
S.A.V.E is scheduled to meet twice a month. Activities include event planning, activity organizing, and creating cultural change to help solve violence nationwide. Students learn to be positive influences and leaders in their communities, all while gaining possible scholarship opportunities.
Their next meeting is Wednesday, September 24th at 2:20 p.m. in the Freshman Lecture Hall.
“Throughout my law enforcement career (20 years+), I have seen the impact of violence-especially on kids/teens.” Ms. Collins SAID. “There’s also been the widespread issue of violence within schools, specifically mass shootings. I would encourage any student who wants to have a voice and be a positive example to all students to join the SAVE Club.”
