The new horror sensation Smile officially hit theaters last weekend with Sosie Bacon starring as Dr. Rose Cotter, who works at a psychiatric ward. Bacon, daughter of actor Kevin Bacon, has a long list of credits, including Loverboy and 13 Reasons Why.

After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Rose starts to experience frightening occurrences that she can’t explain, Rose must tackle her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying reality as she tries to stop the overwhelming terror begins taking over her life.

Smile is a well-plotted movie. It really explains key details before throwing the action at us. They give key flashbacks to take the audience back into the main character’s past, which explains why some of the current events are occurring.

It isn’t your typical horror movie with a boring plot and lots of gore and blood, it has really good jump scares with occasional bloody scenes. The plot has a good psychological twist to it that leaves you in awe.

The only issue I had was that it had a couple moments where there wasn’t any action, and it dragged the movie down a little. However, other than that, I feel like it was a clever story with great acting and emotion shown by the main characters.

This movie is unique compared to other scary movies. It’s not a cheesy plot with tons of blood and gore, it really goes in depth to explain the backstory while still having a scary theme to it. It has potential to be one of the better scary movies if it ages well, which I think it will due to the creativeness and the good acting.

I personally give this movie a 7.5-8/10. I highly recommend you go enjoy this movie with your friends and family during the Halloween season.
