Senior Javeion Gills has gained more than 100 all-purpose yards during his career as a Pirate.

Senior running back and wide receiver Javeoin Gills recently hit a high school milestone for 1,000 all-purpose yards.

What motivates Gills is the fact that the team didn’t make it to State his junior year.

“Remembering I didn’t go to State my junior year with all the other guys like Justin Marshall, Phillip Roche, Jaylen Thomas makes me want to make it my senior year,” he said.

Head coach Brad Seiss says Gills contributes all-around to the football team.

Javi contributes in the special teams return game and has also contributed as a receiver and a rusher for our team. He helps us out in all three ways you can move the ball,” he said.

Gills also contributes to the team by becoming more explosive throughout the years. “Him being able to play multiple positions also helps him be able to contribute,” Seiss said.

Gills credits his coaches for supporting him in every way that they can whether it’s practice and or a big game after a touchdown.

They push me every day. Coach Seiss texts my phone every day making sure I’m there, Coach Pierce getting in my tail everyday, Coach Wissing believing in me. They would push me everytime. They would put me in a lot of positions and they would put trust in me and believe that I can make it to State,” he said.

Gills trains with strength and conditioning Coach, Brady Willard, and also his teammates to help him throughout the season.

I do weight lifting with Coach Willard, and with the team I would sometimes go out in the summer and work out with some of my teammates,” he said.

Gills goal for the rest of the season is to hopefully make it to State. “I want us to make it to State, and if we don’t make it to State to at least make it far,” he said.
