Fate of the Earth at risk in Dont Look Up

Don’t Look Up, the new Netflix original movie, directed by Adam McKay is a comedy/disaster film about of two scientists, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence who discovers a comet heading toward Earth, but the catastrophic event that should have helped unify the country only divides it.

The satirical film came out in late December and makes fun of the current debate over whether to believe in science.

The acting is good. The movie had well known actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, and Jonah Hill. I thought Meryl Streep, who played the President, and Jonah Hill who played the chief of staff and her son were so funny together. I’m also big fan of Chalamet, who played Yule– a skater/shoplifter with a surprising side, so he really influenced me to watch the movie.

The plot was really predictable at some parts until the end. The pace moved a little too fast to where it became hard to understand what characters were doing to stop the comet from destroying the earth. They went from not believing in the comet, to having one way to stop the comet, to trying to use the comet´s minerals for money.

Is the movie worth the watch? If you like fast-paced movies that are filled with humor, satire, pokes fun at how society, media, political structure are often misled and/or manipulated for gain of power and money. I think you would really enjoy the movie and should watch it.
