In 2014, on June 6th, Tomodachi Life was released by Nintendo in America and became an extremely popular game with millions of people playing the game. Hundreds of Youtubers were posting their gameplays online and thousands of people were viewing them.
However, years passed by and no new content was coming through the game. The game came out on the 3DS and as years went by, new and better consoles came out. Fans were losing hope on ever seeing a sequel of Tomodachi Life. Finally, 12 years later, on April 16th, 2026, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was released and fans were ecstatic. Even people who had never played the first game before were excited to try the game out.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a social simulation game made by Nintendo. It is available on the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.
Hope Garrett, a 12th grader, describes it as “…a Switch game where you create miis [customable avatars] with a unique personality and characteristics where you put them on an island and let them interact with each other.”
The game allows you to create characters of any kind, people in real life and fictional characters. All the characters go on to an island (which you can name) and live with one another.
“I like the game because you can make anybody, like friends, fictional characters…I enjoy creating characters and seeing how they develop on the island all together. Also, the different relationships and stuff like that,” Senior Lauren Jones said.
Compared to the first game, Living the Dream has a lot more features. Most notably, the customization. Unlike the first game, you couldn’t customize anything more than the characters. In Living the Dream, you can customize not only your characters to a much bigger extent, but also the island, objects, and more.
Lauren says, “I also really like the customize feature where I can put my drawing techniques to use… You can customize the island and it’s a whole bunch of stuff to do and it’s very fun.”
The game also has plenty of features regarding the relationships between miis in the game. You can make your miis interact with each other and see where their relationship goes. Some may become best friends and some even lovers.
Hope said she likes “The conflict you can have in between miis and how it adds to the game and makes it more interesting whether they’re fighting, falling in love, etc.”
Although the game does have great features, some people are a bit disappointed with things in the first game that were not included in the second.
For example, one of things that most people loved about the first game was the Concert Hall. In the Concert Hall you could choose a genre, change the lyrics to the songs and make your miis perform a concert singing the song you made.
“They removed the growing up feature with the kids,” Hope said. “Now it’s just a short cutscene. You were able to raise the kids with the parents and they all slept in the same room. It was a lot more interactive and a more interesting experience.”
Despite this Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a game that can be enjoyed by those who like peaceful, life simulator games. If you enjoy games such as this, buy it off of the Nintendo Eshop or go to GameStop and see if it’s available. Pricing ranges from $60-$70.
