In a world where connections are important, graduates find comfort and encouragement in the lasting friendships formed within the Divine Nine. This group of historically Black Greek letter organizations is more than just a collection of college memories; it’s about building a network that lasts a lifetime.

“Since I don’t have any sisters, it has given me the chance to bond and be a part of an amazing sisterhood,” says Cheryl Smith, a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 

For Smith, the Divine Nine isn’t just an organization; it’s a source of sisterhood that she didn’t have within her own family. The bonds she has formed within her sorority have given her lifelong friendships and support.

“One of our organization’s main focuses right now is providing meals to school-age students through the CHIPP program (Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack) and offering scholarships for young women going to college,” said Kendra Kemp, a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 

Kemp also highlights the impactful community service initiatives undertaken by her sorority, showing how the Divine Nine goes beyond personal connections to make a real difference in the lives of others.

“Being a member for over 21 years, my organization has definitely helped me develop my leadership skills, especially in effectively interacting with people who have different personalities and needs. The experience of being the president of my sorority’s local chapter for five years has translated well into my current profession,” said Candace Lillie, an experienced member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. 

Lillie’s journey within her sorority has not only enriched her personal life, but has also sharpened her leadership abilities, paving the way for success in her professional career.

Sororities and Fraternities in the D9 include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.
