Heading into Semistate, the Pirates ride the momentum of a dominant performance in the Sectionals blowing out the Crown Point Bulldogs 39-0, and the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos 48-14 and beating Elkhart 27-24 for the Regional title

Coming off their only loss of the season to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, Coach Brad Seiss geared his team up to make a statement in Sectionals against the #3 ranked Lafayette Jefferson.

“The sectional championship was the next championship we could win after winning the DAC,” Seiss said. “After we lost to Indianapolis Chatard we began to direct our attention to preparing for Lafayette Jeff who came in at 10-0 when we played them. We had a great performance offensively and defensively and the game really was never in doubt. “

Junior Lavarion Logan has been a big factor in all three victories. He scored 3 touchdowns against Crown Point with 18 carries for 119 yards. Against Lafayette, Logan carried 31 carries for 152 yards and 1 touchdown. Against Elkhart he was the difference maker with 187 yards and three TDs on 42 carries.

“It’s honestly unbelievable it was a dogfight game but me and my brothers pushed through it all four quarters, Logan said. “But the job is not finished. We are going to be really focused going into this week of practice and watching lots of film.”

The Pirates will host No. 2 Westfield on Friday, at Merrillville H.S at 6:30 p.m. Due to the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in our county, tickets will be limited to parents and guardians of the players. The IHSAA will be streaming the game for $14.95 at IHSAAtv.org.
